What is the "Sourdough Scheduler"?

The "Sourdough Scheduler" is a smart tool designed to take the guesswork out of baking sourdough bread and give you back control of your schedule.

The Goal: Fit Baking Into Your Life, Not the Other Way Around

Many bakers are familiar with the process: you feed your starter and wait an unknown amount of time for it to reach its peak strength, forcing you to adjust your entire day to its rhythm. This app turns that process on its head.

Instead of asking, "When will my starter be ready?" you tell the app when you want it to be ready.

How Does It Help?

The app uses an advanced algorithm that considers all the important variables—time, temperature, your starter's unique activity level, and more—to calculate a precise "Feeding Plan" for you. It will tell you exactly:

  • What time to feed your starter.

  • How many grams of starter, flour, and water to combine.

This way, whether you want your starter ready in the morning when you wake up or in the evening when you get home from work, the process becomes predictable, planned, and stress-free.

The app is designed for both the home baker looking to improve and the professional baker seeking precision and consistency.

How to Use the "Sourdough Scheduler"

The app is divided into two main modes: Simple Mode and Advanced Mode**. You can easily switch between them using the toggle at the top of the page.

Simple Mode

This mode is perfect for bakers who are just starting out or for anyone looking for a quick and reliable result without getting into the details.

  1. "When should it be ready?": Move the slider to select how many hours from now you want your starter to reach its peak strength. The display will show you both the relative time (e.g., "In 8 hours") and the exact time.

  2. "Sourdough needed": Enter the total amount of active starter (levain) your recipe calls for. Important Tip: It's always a good idea to add about 25g extra to this amount, so you have enough "base" left over for your next feeding.

  3. "Ambient Temperature": Enter the average temperature of the room where your starter will be fermenting.

  4. "Starter Power / Activity": This is your personal variable. Calibrate the slider based on how well you know your starter:

    • 50% (Sluggish): Suitable for a starter that has been in the fridge for more than two days without being refreshed.

    • 100% (Healthy): Ideal for a standard starter that is regularly refreshed every 24-48 hours.

    • 150% (Peak): Use this for a very strong starter, or one that has just been refreshed and is at its peak activity.

  5. Click "Calculate Feeding Plan" to get your results.
